It is sturdy, and the parts of the house, furnishings, people and dog are smooth to the touch. The colors are very pretty, and the painting of the pieces is uniform. I bought this for my 3 year old granddaughter. The size is just right for her and there are enough pieces with it for her to have lots of fun. She is the type child who likes to play with people and animals, placing them here and there and pretending. This is just right for that kind of play.
